The historic Ocklawaha River and its tributaries is a main feature of this region along with a section of the St. Johns River and Lake George. The Ocala National Forest, in the heart of the region, includes several spring fed streams such as Juniper Springs Run, Alexander Springs Run and Salt Springs Run.

29: Ocklawaha/Ocala

The wild and beautiful Ocklawaha River, with its dark mirror-like water and unspoiled shorelines, is the dominant feature of this segment. Other paddling trails include the clear-running Silver River with its abundant wildlife and exotic rhesus monkeys. In the late 1800s, small steamboats once plied the waters of the Ocklawaha and Silver Rivers, carrying goods and passengers to and from Jacksonville. Now, canoes, kayaks and small powerboats are the dominant watercraft. This area also covers most of the Ocala National Forest and it’s spring fed runs.

30: Orlando

Orlando is a paddler's paradise with plenty of lakes and ponds, several streams and a spring fed river. Two popular paddling trails are spring fed. As a result, they usually run clear. Rock Springs Run is fairly narrow and canopied by cypress, palms and other trees.
